Mapping the Future for our Military and Government

In October, 2009 IDGA convened its first Electronic Health Records Summit in the Washington, DC area. Acting as a neutral forum (and closed to press) we brought together key stakeholders, including those within the DoD, VA, and HHS to discuss and debate a series of topics surrounding EHRs. We looked at broad issues ranging from the current status of VA/DoD interoperability, open source systems, AHLTA and the NHIN, to the future of a VLER.

In May, 2010, we continued the discussions and debates, but got deeper into the issues. We carried the theme of “what are the immediate and actionable items of concern for all”: from meaningful use to security and privacy concerns.

For our final iteration of the discussions, we will convene again from October 27 – 29, 2010. Recognizing that there are a multitude of agencies and departments faced with both distinct and shared challenges, we will bring together the most diverse group of speaker faculty members thus far.

By participating in this Summit, you will have the unique opportunity to interact with your colleagues in a neutral and informal forum to discuss, brainstorm, and network in order to define methodologies and initiatives, while forging potential solutions and future partnerships

Discussions will include:

  • Solutions towards the challenges of legacy system architectures
  • Beyond Health IT interoperability: achieving a VLER
  • Current progress on meaningful use, and developing standards that will more effectively promote HIE
  • Advancing the NHIN through full spectrum management of data while maintaining the integrity and quality of HIE
  • Developing best business practices to avoid disruptive innovations
  • Proof-of-concept via current VLER pilots, Beacon communities, and VA/DoD interoperability sites
  • Security and privacy management challenges – implications for policy and for practice
